Built in 1814-1815 for J T Campbell, Governor's Secretary, by Governor Lachlan Macquarie to a design from Edward Gyfford's
Designs for elegant cottages and small villas (1806). It later became the Colonial Secretarffice. The building had a front elevation to the southern side of Bridge Street and a side elevation to Elizabeth Street north (now Young Street). This photograph is taken looking west from Bridge Street at its then intersection with Elizabeth Street. The three-storey buiding in the background is the Australian Club in Bent Street, between Bligh and O'Connell Streets.
It is apparent from a close scrutiny of the roof and tree lines in this photograph that this print has been created from an edited original.
