The view is taken looking down George Street, Sydney, towards Circular Quay with no.277 George Street on the left of the photograph, then the United Insurance Company at 275 George Street and no.273 the Exchange Auction Rooms, more or less opposite the intersection with Hunter Street. The street running off George Street to the left is Margaret Street.
