Description:
This view, taken from Goat Island, of residential development on the Balmain waterfront spans the area from Looke Street (now Lookes Avenue) on the left, almost to Simmons Point on the right. The two-story building in the top left of the photograph is the Unity Hall Hotel. The house in the bottom right of the photograph is Vernon Cottage. Many of the other buildings in the photograph have been identified and include: Cliffdale House, Durham Cottage, Darling Cottage, Staines House, Erith Villa, Captain Nicholson's House, Oakley, Kaikoura, Alfred Cottage, Woodbine Cottage and Devonia House. A few survive, most have been demolished.
