This hand-coloured lithograph by John Swain after a wood engraving by A. H. Fullwood, was published as a supplement to "The Sydney Mail" on Saturday 21 January 1888.

Emmet says of this picture: "This dramatic scene ... focuses its bird's-eye view on St Andrew's Cathedral and the Twn Hall as the centre of a city of the new industrial age.
