Leslie Walford papers: Family photographs

The photographer Marcus Adams was an English society photographer who specialised in portraits of children. He is remembered today as a royal photographer taking, in 1926, the first official portrait of the infant Princess Elizabeth (future Queen Elizabeth II) with her mother the then Duchess of York. In April 1940 Adams took a photograph of the young Princess dressed in a kilt and standing against a background reminiscent of a Scottish landscape.

This photograph was published in the social pages of the Sydney Morning Herald on 14 November 1940 with the caption: Many Sydney people will be interested in this photograph of Leslie Walford, only child of Mrs Ben Knowles Davies and the late Mr Leslie Walford, of Sydney.
