Description:
An article in the Sydney Morning Herald 13 May 1859 p.9 reported that Mr W. Hetzer's stereoscopic views of Sydney and its environs 'now numbers upwards of sixty slides', and included views of the city and the harbour, and various banks and public buildings. The report noted that only six views had as yet been taken of the portion of the series which showed the streets. This photograph was not among those listed. The view is looking north along Pitt Street, towards the intersection with Hunter Street, showing the Union Bank on the south-east corner of the two streets and the Sydney Morning Herald building on the north-east corner. A line of horse-drawn cabs can be seen drawn up outside the Herald office.
