This image is one of a
collection of photographs of The Rocks and Circular Quay dating from approximately 1950-1970. The Newcastle Hotel stood on the corner of George and Essex Street and was demolished in 1973. try in The Dictionary of Sydney by Frank Moorhouse states that the publican was Jim Buckley and that the hotel was known to be an "arty" establishment that attracted many artists and intellectuals of the day. As such it may well have been favoured by Stuthridge, an artist as well as a photographer. Read the article here:
