Description:
This portrait of a collie dog can be dated by reference to a related image published in the Women's Supplement of the Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday 23 August 1934. That image shows Dora Sheller in an armchair near the hearth of her home Fairacre at Wahroonga with Bob the dog at the feet.
The Rene Pardon Studio opened in Sydney early in 1929, a partnership between Mr Rene Pardon, 'recently arrived from Brussels' and Australian movie actress Miss Isabel McDonagh. Pardon was actually Polish, the son of Ozias Lander and his wife Tema Krolik, born in Dolina, Poland, in 1899. He arrived in Sydney per Ormond on 1 March 1926. He married in Sydney in 1935 and later moved to Toowoomba with his family, working as a photographer. He died in Brisbane on 15 August 1949.
