Description:
This image is one of a collection of photographs of The Rocks and Circular Quay dating from approximately 1950-1970. The image is dominated by the impressive brick chimneystack intended originally to be used as paran electric light station. The station was never completed and the building was instead used as a Mining Museum, established in 1909 and operating until 1995. The building is now owned by the Ministry of Arts and has been renamed the Arts Exchange. Read the NSW Government's Statement of Significance here. To the left Campbell's Stores can be seen in the foreground and the ASN Co Building with its distinctive turret can be seen in the midground.
